How We help

Work Cover Patients

1. Not to be treated like a number – As we specialise in helping people that have been injured at work, we understand how frustrating it can be. We will treat you with dignity and respect, and empower you to be confident to manage and overcome your injury/illness.

2. Collaboration – we understand the importance of working in a multidisciplinary team, and will keep your other stakeholders closely updated (i.e. GP, Specialist, Insurer) to ensure the best possible outcome for you.

3. Provide a clear plan – we collaborate with you to develop an individualised exercise rehabilitation plan that provides clear steps to help you achieve your desired goals.

4. Clinical specialisation – we specialise in helping people with musculoskeletal injuries, mental illness, and chronic pain conditions, so you are in good hands with us.

5. Convenience – We can complete consultations at your home, at a local gym, at a local hydrotherapy centre, in the community, online or at our clinic.

6. Receive the highest quality care – we complete regular professional development to stay up to date with the latest research to ensure you have access to exceptional care.

Flexible Service delivery Model

Empowering Injured Workers

We give you choice and control over how you would like your treatment to build your confidence to self-manage.

We can take away the stressors of travel and time by meeting you at home.

This mode of service delivery is great for you if you have limited physical mobility, limited access to transport, or injury that leads to reduced confidence in leaving the home.

We find that our clients get great results with home programs as it allows us to show them exercises in the environment they will complete them in when we are not there.

Home visits also provide our practitioners with a deeper understanding of the clients living environment, day to day barriers, and challenges, which then allows us to get appropriate strategies in place.

If you have a gym membership or are looking to purchase one, we can attend the gym alongside you to optimise your program, ensure that it is safe and effective, and individualise it to help you achieve your goals. In some circumstances, where reasonable and necessary, your insurer may also be able to assist with a membership for recovery.

As we specialise in working with people with injury/illness, we can often show you new ways of doing things and new exercise techniques that may not have thought of.

Gym based training is a fantastic way for you to meet like minded people and re-engage in the community.

It also provides you with access to specialised equipment (i.e. weights and cardio machines) that can help you become the best version of yourself.

We have great relationships with a large majority of the gyms across our wide service area – chat to us today to find out if we work with your gym!

Our Exercise Physiologists are able to complete consultations throughout your local community, whether it be at a local park, beach, walking trail or sporting field, we’ve got you covered!

This would allow you to access your program outside of your scheduled consultations and participate in activity more regularly.

Community consultations are beneficial in that they allow you to move in a way that is meaningful for you, and they are a great way to promote social participation.

We take pride in regularly communicating progress, barriers, and treatment plans with your multidisciplinary support team to ensure you have appropriate support around you to achieve your health and life goals.

We are able to access local aquatic centres to deliver hydrotherapy based programs to you.

Hydrotherapy programs can be especially beneficial for you if you have a neurological condition, pain condition, have reduced balance, are in an acute/sub-acute phase of rehabilitation, and/or you are someone that enjoys water based activity.

Our fully equipped clinic at: Suite 1, 316 Maitland Road, Mayfield, gives you access to all of the equipment you could need to improve you health and assist you towards your goals.

The clinic always has a great, supportive environment – you get all the benefits of a gym and equipment, without the crowds.

The clinic is accessible, with lots of on-street parking nearby; we also have accessible shared amenities on-site.

We are well versed at being able to develop and deliver quality online exercise programs via Microsoft Teams.

This allows you to access your program, your exercise physiologist and stay on track, no matter where you are in the country.

We find that certain people love engaging via telehealth, especially if they are managing reduced mobility or just don’t have the confidence to be seen in person yet.

We have had some fantastic outcomes where people begin with online programs and then increase their social participation over time as their confidence grows.

We take pride in regularly communicating progress, barriers, and treatment plans with your multidisciplinary support team to ensure you have appropriate support around you to achieve your health and life goals.

Every encounter that I have had with Excercise Physiology has been wonderful. Rebecca has been a very professional and supportive EP throughout each and every consultation I've had. Always paying great attention and professionalism in both character and experience to help support me through my injuries and be able to repeatedly improve my quality of life. Thankyou so much Bec and thankyou Uplift for a wonderful duty of care. Highly recommend going through Uplift Exercise Physiology if you are looking for a great EP!!!

After being on work cover for a year and a half I finally had surgery to which my recovery and time on WC had been super draining mentally, physically and emotionally. My confidence was at a all time low and after being in pain for so long I couldn't tell what was actual pain and what was weakness. Luke has been amazing, his down to earth approach eased my mind and he was caring enough to truly listen and guide me on my recovery. He has looked at my injury from all views and has helped me build my confidence back up that I'm now going to the gym strength training 4-5 times a week. He has given me so much knowledge about my body and mind and I couldn't thank him enough for all the support over the past few months. Would highly recommend Uplift and especially Luke and his humbleness towards his clients 👏🏼👏🏼

My EP Bec has been terrific. She listens to goals (and restrictions) and comes up with a catered plan to match. Bec has a great sense of humour and is incredibly punctual.

My 86 year old mum was struggling with mobility at home. Lachlan from Uplift was excellent. He was caring, patient but encouraging and helped mum retain as much independence as possible. We were able to keep mum at home for much longer thanks to Lachie. Cannot recommend them highly enough. Kellie Walker

My 24yr old son is NDIS funded and absolutely 100% is enjoying and benefiting from his sessions with Uplift Physiology. From the very first day his improvement was obvious. He was happier and more motivated than he has been in a very long time. These mentors are professional and passionate. It's so amazing to find genuine people who want to help, improve and make a difference in your life or the life of someone you care about. Big thank you to Jason and Declan. You guys rock!

I had an excellent experience with Jason from Uplift. I'd previously seen a physio who provided me with general exercises. Jason at Uplift went further by tailoring my rehab to my lifestyle. For example, after a short discussion he found out I was active in the water and incorporated swimming strokes to strengthen my shoulder as part of my rehab. This personal and understanding touch helped fix my shoulder faster and didn't require me to change my lifestyle by joining a gym or lifting weights. Thanks very much to the team at Uplift.

After being injured at work 12 months ago Uplift finished off my "rehab". Through exceptional attention to detail Jason has brought me back to full mobility with zero pain. Jason's knowledge ensured exercises were tailored to my injury & body type. I was provided with an individual plan that was easy to follow and thorough. Home visits made things so much easier too. Thanks Jason 😊

FAQs

Absolutely! We have a great mix of male and female Exercise Physiologists of varying ages and levels of experience. When we receive your referral we review it and allocate you to the most appropriate practitioner. Please make sure to specify any preferences upon referral and we will do our best to accommodate.

We have great coverage. We can help you if you are located anywhere across Newcastle, the Central Coast, the Hunter Valley, and Port Stephens.

We can also consult with you Australia-wide, via telehealth.

For clinic based consultations you can see us at: 1/316 Maitland Road, Mayfield, 2304.

Absolutely! We have great relationships with the majority of gyms and hydrotherapy centres within our service area.

We have been in operation since 2019 and the longest wait list we have ever had is two weeks, and even that was only for a short period of time. We have managed to hire and retain quality team members which has allowed us to meet increasing demand and avoid wait times. We aim to complete WorkCover initial assessments within five days of receiving a referral.

We are strong advocates of early, active, work specific rehabilitation for workers with acute/sub-acute neuromuscular, musculoskeletal, and/or psychological injury including but not limited to: ligament damage, muscular damage, fractures, postural issues, whiplash, neural conditions, post-surgical, depression, anxiety, stress, and/or PTSD.

We also assist workers with chronic work-related conditions to upgrade their capacity for work, and most importantly improve the quality of life outside of work.

We help with: chronic pain, fear avoidance, musculoskeletal de-conditioning, weight management, restoring range of motion, work specific functional upgrading, and work hardening for durability.

The quickest and easiest way to start Exercise Physiology with Uplift is to fill out our online referral form – just press the Quick Referral button.

Once this form is filled out, it will be received and reviewed by the team manager who can immediately begin processing the referral into our system.

Once processed into the system, it is allocated to the most appropriate Exercise Physiologist (considering geography, complexity, gender requests etc.) and the Exercise Physiologist will be in contact to book an initial assessment at an agreed time, date and location.

The initial assessment is where you and Exercise Physiologist get to meet for the first time.

The purpose of the initial assessment is for you and the Exercise Physiologist to get to know each other, discuss goals, discuss health history, assess current status (questionnaires and basic physical assessments), and most importantly collaborate together to develop an individualised exercise plan.

The initial assessment is usually more talk based, rather than exercise based – the majority of exercises begin after the initial assessment.

At the end of the assessment, once both parties agree on a plan, and a follow up session date, the Exercise Physiologist will give all parties and update and seek approval for treatment from the Insurer – then you can focus on you treatment and recovery.

No two programs look the same, so we really can’t know this until after the initial assessment.

The reason for this is that we take an individualised approach, not a ‘cookie cutter’ approach. Some of the factors that determine what a program look like include: your goals, your exercise preferences and likes, diagnosis/medical conditions, safety, and current evidence around what is effective.

Programs can be delivered at home, in the gym, at a hydrotherapy centre, online or in the community (or a combination of multiple options).
